Hello CVARC members, families, and guests!

We had a great start to the new year! Our CVARC January General Meeting speaker was Dr. Jack Nilsson-N8NDL owner and inventor of the COMPACtenna. I have one and find it to be a surprisingly good performing antenna for the extremely compact size of 9 inches!  Several members of the club have purchased the antenna and are getting good results.

Winter Field Day was Saturday January 29^th at Dos Vientos Park. The event was well attended by members and visitors, including two new club members! Thank you to Martin Hickey-AJ6CL for securing the park and seeing that everyone was fed. A well-fed HAM is a happy HAM. Our next event will be the Spring Fling in April. More details will be coming at the next club meeting.

I am honored to be your new CVARC President for the coming year. A big thank you to all the 2021 Board Members who worked to keep everything moving forward during this unprecedented time.  With 2021 now in the books (and not a day too soon), the past two years have been unlike any I can remember. When our neighborhoods all but shut down, our ham community stepped up, big time! Whether checking in with members to make sure all was well; to more frequent nets, zoom classes and zoom meetings, our members made a difference.

I hope everyone who got to attend the CVARC Picnic in August had a fun and enjoyable time.  Our thanks go out to Martin Hickey-AJ6CL for organizing the event and Mike Felio-KM6EII for providing the great food and drinks.  Mark your calendars for a “bigger repeat”, October 9^th for our Mini Field Day.

CVARC BOARD:  Your Board is in the process of putting together a Slate of Offices for next year.  If you have an interest in participating or know of someone that might want to be involved, please contact one of our Board members.

As we dance the Covid-19 and the Delta Variant we hope you stay safe and avoid the miseries of being sick. Unfortunately, we have had a few members that have not been so lucky. We wish them a speedy recovery on the road to feeling good again.

CVARC PICNIC: On August 28^th we will be having our picnic at Dos Vientos Park.  Come out and play radio, eat great food and drink your favorite soft drink.

With the passing of our President, Brett Price KM6VFW-SK we mourn the loss of a great leader of our club and a friend to all of us.  It reminds us to make the best of every day and enjoy life to the fullest.

Our Next Club Meeting, June 17^th  at 7:00 p.m. We will have Dr. Tamitha Skov-WX6SWW known as the Space Weather Woman talk to us about Cycle 25 and how technology like our cell phones, GPS (GNSS), and other Satellite services are susceptible to the effects of space weather.  You don’t want to miss this program.  Please click here for more details.

Your Board Members have met and determined to cancel the March 19, 2020 meeting for the protection of our membership. 

Given the recommendation of federal, state and local health authorities regarding efforts to avoid contracting coronavirus (COVID-19), including social distancing, among others, the demographics of our membership, the virulent and aggressive nature of this disease, and your Board’s desire to help our members to avoid contamination, we believe this is the best decision for CVARC and its membership. This decision was difficult but necessary. We hope to resume meetings in April or May, depending upon facts and circumstances relating to coronavirus.

Well, another year is coming to an end.  And with it, so does my term as club President.  

I hope everyone has enjoyed these last two years – the meetings and programs, the Field Days, Picnics, project builds, the holiday parties, and everything else we’ve done. 

Wow, what a great weekend of radio fun!

This past weekend was the 54^th Annual California QSO Party.  This was my second year participating.  I operated for about 7 hours, over the two days, and I managed to make contacts in 26 California counties, 27 states, 3 Canadian provinces and two other foreign countries (France and Honduras).  79 contacts in all.  I worked fellow CVARC member Bob Hughes-K6HHW and heard Norm Campbell-AB6ET as we both tried to work an Italian station.  I also heard Pete Heins-N6ZE.  Hopefully other CVARC members were in on the fun, especially those who recently upgraded to General.
