President’s Message

Hello CVARC members, families, and guests!

Ed Zimmermann-N6XEW

It’s June and you know what that means? That’s right, June bugs!  Have not seen any yet, but I know they are out there. And speaking of out there, Field Day 2022 is upon us! Friday June 24th is setup, Saturday June 25th and Sunday the 26th are the operating days. Come out to the Lake Sherwood field and join us. With solar number on the way up, propagation should make for a very memorable Field Day. If you would like to volunteer or participate, please contact Martin-AJ6CL. Check the CVARC.ORG website for more information.

President’s Message

Hello CVARC members, families, and guests!

Ed Zimmermann-N6XEW

We had a great start to the new year! Our CVARC January General Meeting speaker was Dr. Jack Nilsson-N8NDL owner and inventor of the COMPACtenna. I have one and find it to be a surprisingly good performing antenna for the extremely compact size of 9 inches!  Several members of the club have purchased the antenna and are getting good results.

Winter Field Day was Saturday January 29th at Dos Vientos Park. The event was well attended by members and visitors, including two new club members! Thank you to Martin Hickey-AJ6CL for securing the park and seeing that everyone was fed. A well-fed HAM is a happy HAM. Our next event will be the Spring Fling in April. More details will be coming at the next club meeting.

Happy New Year CVARC members, families, and guests!

Ed Zimmermann-N6XEW

I am honored to be your new CVARC President for the coming year. A big thank you to all the 2021 Board Members who worked to keep everything moving forward during this unprecedented time.  With 2021 now in the books (and not a day too soon), the past two years have been unlike any I can remember. When our neighborhoods all but shut down, our ham community stepped up, big time! Whether checking in with members to make sure all was well; to more frequent nets, zoom classes and zoom meetings, our members made a difference.

President’s Message on CVARC Holiday Party

Dear CVARC Members and Friends,

As everyone knows, we have had a difficult last two years with all the COVID-19 issues and the resulting problems.

We tried to plan a fun CVARC Holiday Party as we have done for the past several years.  It is a great time to get together and share our friendships in person and not over our radios.  Unfortunately, we are not over all these issues yet, and a majority of members are not ready to be part of the CVARC Holiday Party.  I am sure there are several reasons why.  I know some have been cooped up for too long and need to travel out of their caves, some have other commitments and some just think it is too soon to be inside with others.  So, I am sorry to say, we need to postpone our CVARC Holiday Party another year!

We hope to hear you on the radio and zooms!

73,

Brad-W6VO

I hope everyone who got to attend the CVARC Picnic in August had a fun and enjoyable time.  Our thanks go out to Martin Hickey-AJ6CL for organizing the event and Mike Felio-KM6EII for providing the great food and drinks.  Mark your calendars for a “bigger repeat”, October 9th for our Mini Field Day.

CVARC BOARD:  Your Board is in the process of putting together a Slate of Offices for next year.  If you have an interest in participating or know of someone that might want to be involved, please contact one of our Board members.

As we dance the Covid-19 and the Delta Variant we hope you stay safe and avoid the miseries of being sick. Unfortunately, we have had a few members that have not been so lucky. We wish them a speedy recovery on the road to feeling good again.

CVARC PICNIC: On August 28th we will be having our picnic at Dos Vientos Park.  Come out and play radio, eat great food and drink your favorite soft drink.

Field Day:  This year we were back in person!  I hope you got a chance to come out to this year’s Field Day site.  It was a fun event and great to see everyone.  We had several visitors; Sheriff Ayub, our new Thousand Oaks Commander, Thousand Oaks Mayor, Claude Bill-de la Pena, Dick Norton, ARRL Southwest Director, to name a few.  We had our annual BBQ which was fabulous and prepared by our own Mike Felio.  On behalf of the club, thank you Mike for all your hard work, it was a great success!

Meeting Location Details: We have not been given the green light to return to the Sheriff’s Station yet, so we will be continuing our meetings via Zoom until further notice.
