President’s Message

Hello CVARC members, families, and guests!

August flew by, did it not?  We had a tropical storm, record heat, an earthquake, a VE session, an end fed half wave antenna build and a SOTA event. It was a busy and exciting month for sure. I can’t wait to see what September has in store. For one, September is National Preparedness Month. Also in August, we had our first recipient of the CVARC Newbie Net Challenge Coin. Congratulations to Huston Herman-KE6FGX!  You did an excellent job running the net!

The CVARC VE Session August 13th saw 10 new licenses and upgrades.  Congratulations!

The CVARC SOTA event was on August 19th. We had an amazing turn out. A big thank you to RonTopolinski-K6CPR and Martin Hickey-AJ6CL for all the work to make this a wonderful event!

The Camarillo Air Show was August 19th and 20th – Thank you to all the CVARC members who volunteered for this event.

The annual Route 66 On the Air Special Event will take place September 9 – 17, 2023. The purpose of the event is to commemorate the history of the “Mother Road” connecting the east and west United States. I have participated in this event in the past. It’s a blast to work all the stations.

The CVARC general meeting is Thursday September 21st at 7:30pm. The topic will be the early days of amateur radio. Ken Larson-KJ6RZ will talk about this exciting time in radio.  The pre-meeting dinner will be at the Dugout Sports Grill at 109 W. Cochran Street, Simi Valley. Check the CVARC Calendar for more information.

Hope to hear you on the air!

73,

Ed Zimmermann-N6XEW
