On August 19th from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., CVARC will hold its first-ever “Drive-Up SOTA Chase and Activation Adventure.”
For this event, no hiking is necessary! The location is a beautiful hilltop venue in the Camarillo Heights area to which we can drive our cars. It will be a fun CVARC party!
Bring your radio and antenna if you like or join one of the several stations that will be set up by other club members. The Camarillo location is a coveted and desirable SOTA summit, rarely activated by even the most ardent SOTA enthusiasts because of its closed location on private property.
There is plenty of grass and shade and usually a nice ocean breeze. The owner has graciously granted CVARC access for this event at his perfect picnic site on a grassy field surrounded by palm trees.
There will be CVARC members in attendance who can demonstrate SOTA activations, but emphasis will be placed on demonstrating how anyone can participate as a SOTA “chaser” from the comfort of their own shack and earn awards doing it.
CVARC will provide sandwiches and drinks. Come and learn how to chase SOTA activators from home while having a fun time kibitzing and socializing with your CVARC buddies.
You can also “activate” the peak, get some fun pile-ups, and earn some special “Summit-to-Summit bonus points!
All of this will be discussed at the August CVARC club meeting.
