Our grill master Mike Felio-K6MJF in action.

CVARC will provide burgers, hot dogs and buns.  Mike Felio-K6MJF, our Social Coordinator, will do the grilling. We will bring everything else “pot-luck style.”  Bring your favorite picnic-style dish!

A link to a spreadsheet to sign up for different picnic-style food items is posted below.  Copy and paste it into the address bar in your browser (clicking on it directly doesn’t always seem to work.)  Let’s keep track, so we don’t get overloaded in any particular item and totally devoid of another.  Put your name and call sign in the row of the item you intend to bring:

Brookside Science Night

CVARC members Stu Forman-AD6SF, Norm Campbell-AB6ET and Bill Willcox-KF6JQO volunteered to introduce kids to amateur radio at a Science Night at Brookside Elementary School in the Oak Park School District on April 29th.

Volunteer Operators Needed for Two June Events

Ham radio operators are needed in support of the 45th annual Scandinavian Festival at CLU on June 4th and 5th. This is a great opportunity for a ham who may be a little tentative about volunteering for an event. Hams who have never done an event will be joined by experienced “Elmers” who want to help.

The event will have three, two-person roving groups and a two-person Net Control to provide help with lost children and other small issues. This will give operators practice with proper net operation and  procedures. It’s all on simplex frequencies so training is easy. There are two, four to five hour shifts for each day of the festival. You can do one shift or two shifts in one day.  If you do a day with two shifts, you will have time for an authentic Scandinavian lunch! If you are interested in volunteering, please email Zak Cohen at N6PK@arrl.net.

On June 5th operators are needed for a traditional charity event; helping with the Love Run in Thousand Oaks.  This includes a half marathon, 5K and 10K races.  There will be four aid stations and two or three SAG wagons.  It is a fun event that local hams have been helping with for several years.  If you’d like to volunteer, please email Zak Cohen at N6PK@arrl.net.

CVARC Winter Field Day is January 29th

Conejo Valley Amateur Radio Club will hold Winter Field Day at Dos Vientos Park, 4801 Borchard Road, Newbury Park, CA 91320, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

The purpose of Winter Field Day is to foster ham camaraderie, field operation, emergency operating preparedness, and just plain on-the-air, outdoor fun during winter for American, Canadian, and DX Hams.  Don’t let those winter doldrums keep you locked up in the house. Get out and play some radio!

The Conejo Recreation and Park District will not turn on the power to the electrical outlets at Dos Vientos until 12:30, so be prepared to power your rig on an emergency power source for at least the first two hours of Winter Field Day.

See you at the park!
