President’s Message

Happy New Year!  I’d like to again thank outgoing Board members Tim Wheeler-K6POI, Steve Gillis-KZ6H, Joe Sprissler-AI6MW and Ben Herrera-W6JWZ for their service to the club, and again welcome new Board members Brett Price-KM6VFW, Paul Van Zuyle-K6PVZ, Kat Hunley-K6VQN and Diane Wainwood-KJ6JEJ.  The Board has already had it first meeting of the new year, and we’ve started planning for 2019.  I think you’ll enjoy what’s to come.

Probably the biggest change last year was the decision to retire the club newsletter and redesign our website.  It’s been six months, and the overall response has been very positive.  Although Andy and I still receive the occasional email with questions, so we thought it might be a good time to revisit the topic.

We didn’t “lose the newsletter,” we gained a much more dynamic website.  All the typical newsletter content can now be found on the Club’s website.  One major benefit is that new content can be added throughout the month, unlike a newsletter which was published once each month and couldn’t be updated or corrected after it was published.  If there’s something you’d like posted on the website – maybe you wrote an article, or have some gear for sale, or you’d like to share a photo, or add something added to the calendar – simply send it to me.  Unlike the newsletter, there’s no deadline.  You’ll never “miss the cutoff” and have to wait for “next month’s newsletter.”

Finding information is easy.  There are tabs at the top of the screen to help you find information about the club, our next meeting, the calendar, getting licensed, nets and repeaters, and links to information, technical articles and photos.  Also, everything that’s posted to the website is placed into a “Category.”  If you’re looking for posts about a specific topic, you can search by CategoryIf you’re looking for posts from a specific time frame, you can search the Archives to see only the posts that were posted during a specific month and year.  Also, for the contesters, we’ve added a link to an 8-Day Contest Calendar.  On a computer, the Categories, Archives and the link to the Contest Calendar are listed along the right side of the page.  On a mobile device, they’re listed at the bottom of the page.

Hopefully you’ve explored the website and found it easy to navigate and easy to find whatever it is you’re looking for.  As always, if there’s anything that you believe could be improved, please let me know.

Looking forward to a wonderful 2019.  I hope to see you at the upcoming Mini-Field Day & Picnic on January 26th.

  1. Hi Stu & CVARC Members,

Former member here, mid ’80s – ’95, when I moved to Colorado. It’s nice to see how you’ve grown. I published the Newsletter 1990-92. Nostalgic memories. The website is terrific.

Great club! I’ll always treasure club meetings, VE sessions at the Sheriff’s Station, ARES ops, and Field Days on Rasnow Peak.

    Best 73,
