President’s Message

Hello CVARC members, families, and guests!

Ed Zimmermann-N6XEW

The CVARC General meeting last month was awesome! It was about go kits, we had no less than 15 go kits on display. It was great to see all the different kits and talk to the builders.
Thank you to all who brought in your builds.

At our August 18th CVARC General Meeting at the East County Sheriff Station, the topic will be Emergency Backup Power. A panel will discuss several approaches to emergency power including home-brew solar/battery set ups, UPS, and other power storage and generation systems. If your E-power is mobile, bring it to the meeting. It is going to be an interesting discussion. I will be bringing my portable 1700 Wh home brew battery power and describe how I use it both in the home and portable.

CVARC General License Class started Saturday July 9th and is going well. Be ready to take
your License Exam this coming August 14th at the East County Sheriff station. Contact Andy Ludlum, K6AGL@CVARC.ORG to sign up for the exam session.

The CVARC Picnic will be at Dos Vientos Park on September 4th from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. Be on the lookout for more information. And of course no picnic is complete without food.

This month CVARC will be a sponsor of the BORED NET Micro Field Day 11 A.M. August 13th at the park inside Lake Sherwood! If you like to attend, please contact Keith@w6kme.org. You will need to have your name at the gate to gain entry and space is limited to about 30 people. This is open to all licensed amateurs. The BORED NET is a club-independent group that seeks all license hams regardless of club affiliation to get together and play radio or socialize. They meet on the BOZO repeater at 9 A.M. Monday thru Saturday with swap net following the Saturday morning meeting. Add another meeting Saturday night at 9 P.M. for some after dark net activities. The BORED NET has a Micro Field Day every month, so we all get practice setting up our radios in the field.

Newbie Net:  Our Newbie Net meets every Sunday night at 7 P.M.. The Newbie Net is an
opportunity for newer hams to get on the air and gain experience and confidence. More
experienced hams or “Elmers” regularly check in and are available to answer questions and
offer advice.  All are welcome.  We are always looking for net controllers. #hamharder.  It is
great practice and fun to be net control, so please sign up with Todd-KD6RCM
at kd6rcm@arrl.net.

Hope to hear you on the air!
73,
Ed
