President’s Message

Hello CVARC members, families, and guests!

Ed Zimmermann-N6XEW

It was great to have our March CVARC General Meeting in person at the East County Sheriff Station. The meeting was well attended, and it was great to see everyone. At our April 21st meeting we will have Santa Barbara Section Manager John Kitchens. The topic will be: ARRL Update: Getting More from Your Membership – a new emphasis at ARRL to enhance member services. Check the website for meeting details.

One of W2AYZ’s hidden transmitters

Saturday April 9th was the CVARC Spring Fling and Rover Roundup.  We all had a wonderful time collecting contacts and grid squares. Thank you to Martin-AJ6CL for organizing the event. Thanks to Keith-W6KME for keeping track and scoring the contacts and to Victor-W2AYZ for providing hours of entertainment for those looking for the transmitters he hid around the park for the fox hunt activities.

The Rover Roundup was enjoyed by many again this year. We had 10 official logs submitted (many more took part-turn those logs in!) from K6AGL, W6KME, KI6BTY, AI6YR, KK6YAM, KN6QQW, WB6L, KD6NFD, W6VO, and W2AYZ. Ben-AI6YR ended up with 33 QSOs, times 12 different grid squares, for 396 points. Andy-K6AGL, was a strong second with 26 Qs and 9 grids (234 points) while Ray-WB6L rounded off the top three with 17 QSOs from 9 grids (153 points). Thanks to all who took part!

CVARC held a VE session on Sunday April 10th where 19 people earned new licenses, 16 Technicians and three Generals.

Field Day 2022 is fast approaching! June 24th, 25th and 26th.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact Martin-AJ6CL. Check the website for more information.

Newbie Net:  Our Newbie Net meets every Sunday night at 7 p.m. The Newbie Net is an opportunity for newer hams to get on the air and gain experience and confidence. More experienced hams or “Elmers” regularly check in and are available to answer questions and offer advice.  All are welcome.  We are always looking for net controllers. #hamharder.  It is great practice and fun to be net control, so please sign up with Todd-KD6RCM at kd6rcm@arrl.net.

Hope to hear you on the air!

73,

Ed
