Nominees For The Board Still Needed

Nominees for the CVARC 2002 Board of Directors are still needed! The election for the new board will occur at the November club meeting. Nominations for the board positions can be submitted to any of the current board members up through the October club meeting. In preparation for the November elections, I will call for additional board position nominations during the business segment of our October meeting.
Being a board member is not a difficult job. In fact it is an excellent opportunity to socialize with other CVARC members and to help plan the future activities of the club. There are no special requirements or experience needed to become a board member. If you are a new amateur radio operator, becoming a board member is not only fun, it provides one of the best ways to meet other hams and learn about the many aspects of our hobby. If you are an old timer, your wisdom and experience on the board will be of tremendous help in guiding the CVARC activities. So I encourage each of you to seriously consider becoming a CVARC board member. If you know of someone who would like to become more involved in CVARC activities, encourage them to become a board member.
Our CVARC By-laws require that we publish a list of board member nominees in the October CVARC Newsletter. To fulfill this requirement, a number of the current board members have agreed to serve an other year. So the list of nominees as it currently stands is as follows:
President: Ken Larson Vice President: Bill Hughes Secretary: Open Treasurer: Roy Deschene Education: Karl Moody Technical: Rob Hanson Editor/Publisher: Roger Loiler Public Relations: Open Operations: Gregory Lane Social: Open Member At Large: Mike Pershing
I stress that this is only a preliminary list. Other nominees are needed! We have several open positions. In addition, none of us who have agreed to be nominees want to dominate CVARC. New ideas and evolving leadership is the life blood of an organization. So each of us currently on the list consider all of the board positions to be open, and hope that others will be interested in assuming an active role on the board and in the club. The future and well being of CVARC depends on the active participation of us all.

Who are you? How many of you are there? Do you know where your identity is tonight? Has your identity been STOLEN? Logan returns to the CVARC stage to enlighten and entertain members and guests at our October 11 meeting. Speaking on the subject of "Identity Theft," Larry will show us how easy it is for someone to steal our identity, use our Social Security number, gain access to our bank accounts, credit cards, And other personal data, and just plain make life miserable for us for years to come. This is a growing problem and you need to learn how to protect Your yourself from being a victim of identity theft. Please join us and bring along a friend...they'll appreciate your invitation to attend this Important program.

Karl Moody conducts Amateur Radio Licensing Classes several times a year for those interested in getting an Amateur Radio License or upgrading to a more advanced license. However, work and family schedules often prevents those interested in getting a license from attending Karl's classes. To help people in that position, Karl has put together a Self Study Course. The course includes: 1. A course outline. 2. A study notebook. This is an excellent notebook that presents the information needed to pass the license exam in a simple and easy to remember manner. 3. "Now You Are Talking", the excellent beginner's license manual published by the ARRL. 4. Video tapes.
In addition, Karl will notify you of when the licensing exams are being held and will provide you with other help as you need it in studying for your amateur radio license.
Karl currently has five people going through the self study program.
Contact Karl at 805-523-0622 if you would like to participate in the self study course.
