June Meeting Summary

8 members met for dinner at Brent’s Deli in Westlake Village.

Meeting began at 7:30 with the Pledge of Allegiance.

First time visitors were welcomed, and newly licensed hams and those who recently upgraded their licenses were acknowledged.

Thanks to Social Chair Mike Felio-K6MJF for bringing the coffee, and Zak Cohen-N6PK for bringing the cookies.

Raffle prizes: Bioenno Power 12V 9AH and charger; Nagoya NA-771 Whip Antenna; Coax Wrap.

Auction:  CVARC is auctioning off a radio, a Yaesu FT-100MP Mark V with an FP-29 Power Supply and an SP-8 External Speaker.  Ben Kuo-AI6YR checked it out, and everything seems to be working properly.  He posted a video on YouTube; there’s a link in the newsletter.  If you’re interested, send your bid to info@cvarc.org.  Minimum bid is $750.  If you’re serious, make a strong bid.  You won’t know how many other people have bid, or what their bids are, or if you’ve been outbid.  The deadline to bid is 8:00 PM on July 19; during next month’s meeting.  Winner will be announced at the meeting.  Winner need not be present.

Membership Dues: For most club members, dues were due in May.  If you haven’t already done so, please pay Christian Ylagan-K6CAY at the back table or send a check to the club’s PO Box (the address is on the Contact Us page of the website.)  Dues are $20/year, or $16 per year if you pay for multiple years.  $25 for a family membership.

Field Day set up is tomorrow, June 22, at noon.  Come help if you can.  Field Day starts Saturday at 11:00 A.M. and continues through Sunday at 11:00 A.M.  There’s a BBQ Saturday at 5:00.  Cost is $20, pay Christian Ylagan-K6CAY.

Ventura County Board of Supervisors proclaim June 2018 as Amateur Radio Month.

Classes:  General Class classes begin on July 14, for 5 Saturdays, starting at 8:00. Technician classes begin the following Saturday, on July 21, and run for 4 Saturdays, starting at 1:00. Both classes lead up to the August 12 VE Session.  Classes and the VE Session are at the East County Sheriff’s Station.  Questions about the classes can be directed to Bill Willcox-KF6JQO. 

Basic Radio Tech Talk #1 is scheduled for Wednesday, July 18, 7-9:00 PM in the Thousand Oaks City Hall—Oak Room.  The topic is Antennas.  Bill Willcox-KF6JQO, Adrian Jarrett-K6KY and Zak Cohen-N6PK will discuss and answer questions about the various types and size of amateur radio antennas that you can buy or build, and their installation.  Everyone is invited. Guest Speaker:

Bill Boyd, Emergency Manager with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services, discussed emergency preparedness and communications in Ventura County.

Next month’s meeting is on July 19.  The topic is Logging software.  The pre-meeting dinner is at Junkyard Café in Simi Valley starting at 5:00.
