CVARC VAN OPERATION PROCEDURES

CVARC communications van

The CONEJO VALLEY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB (CVARC) is a non-profit organization, and a Special Service Club of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). CVARC serves the community, Ventura County, State of California, and nation in times of disaster, and exists to further the education and promotion of the science and technology of Amateur Radio.

CVARC participates in many public service activities by preparing for and providing communications for both Civil and Federal Government emergencies. Organizations supported by CVARC include, but are not limited to the American Red Cross, Fire Departments, and Law Enforcement Agencies.

CVARC has established this mobile communications system to serve the community as part of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES), and the California Office of Emergency Services (OES). In non-emergency times, the van will be used for demonstrations and promotions at schools, city and county events.

The CVARC Van Project was undertaken recognizing the need for mobile communications in emergency situations when electrical power, telephone and cellular services are not operational or overloaded as in the 1994 earthquake, the Calabasas, Malibu, Steckel Canyon and other fires. It has been demonstrated that amateur radio operators provide reliable and dependable forms of critical communications that augment existing emergency services. From remote site radio support, to the passing of health and welfare information, we hope to enhance this service with the completion of the Emergency Communications Van with your help.

With the van modification in process, we are still in need of additional radio equipment to complete the project. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department and GTE are the first sponsors for the club's Emergency Communications Van Project. Can we count on your generous support for this essential community resource?
