The next regular club meeting is Thursday, November 15, 2018 (always the third Thursday) at the East County Sheriff’s Station’s Community Room 2101 E. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks at 7:30 pm.

Talk-in coordination is on the Bozo repeater, 147.885 ( – 127.3).

Topic/Guest Speaker:  Ham Radio Apps for Cell Phones:  Stu Forman-AD6SF will lead a discussion about the many ham radio apps available for the iPhone and Android cellphone platforms.  The apps range from testing, reference and logging tools to APRS trackers and streaming-audio software such as Echolink.

The meeting began at 7:30 with the Pledge of Allegiance.  First time visitors were welcomed, as were several newly licensed hams.  Thanks to Mike Felio-K6MJF for bringing the coffee, and Mark Horner-KK6IKX and Jim Inman-KB6JI for bringing cookies.

How does a typical installation go, what fusing and power considerations should you have in mind?  Marty will also discuss antenna mounting options and more.  He’ll also share with us the latest on California laws regarding operating a ham radio in a moving vehicle. Topic/Guest Speaker:  What’s New With the ARRL? John Kitchens-NS6X, the new Santa Barbara Section Manager for the American Radio Relay League will talk about the activities of the only association representing amateur radio operators at the federal level.  There are 1100 hams in the Santa Barbara section which consists of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. John will welcome your questions about the many activities and services of the national organization.

Topic/Guest Speaker:  “I Just Got My Amateur Radio License…Now What?” Stu Sheldon-AG6AG continues our theme of providing information for newly licensed Hams.  Stu offers common sense advice on a variety to topics from buying the right radio, setting up antennas as well as suggestions on activities where you can put your new ham privileges to good use.  And as always, CVARC elmers will chip in with their best tips.

Thursday, March 21, 2019 – Repeater Systems: Brad Ormsby-W6VO discusses the numerous repeater systems available to Conejo Valley hams.  Which are open or closed?  Brad will also describe a linked repeater system and discuss some of the special attributes of each.  He’ll also talk about the cost of membership and how to choose what system would best meet your needs and interests.

The Speakers Committee (Stu Forman-AD6SF, Mark Horner-KK6IKX, Brad Ormsby-W6VO, David Arata-KA9WMI and Andy Ludlum-K6AGL) is always interested in your program ideas.  If you have thoughts on who might be a good speaker for a club meeting, please let any of us know.  Sometimes it becomes necessary to reschedule a speaker or topic.  We appreciate your understanding.
