Amateur Extra License Classes Begin in January

Instructor Zak Cohen-N6PK

We have dates for the Amateur Extra class, and it’s going to be at the East County Sheriff’s Station! After nearly two years of doing everything virtually we’ll finally be back to in-person instruction.

The classes will be Saturday mornings from 8:00 A.M. to noon on January 8, 15, 22, and 29.

Keith Elliott-W6KME will assist in teaching the Extra class

Zak Cohen-N6PK will be your Professor with Keith Elliott-W6KME as T. A., gopher, and bartender. The course is timed to lead right into CVARC’s in-person VE testing session on February 13th as well, so you can take the test while everything is still fresh in your mind.

Sometimes it may look like you need to be an engineer to get an Extra, but this simply isn’t true. The Amateur Extra license is for any ham that takes pride in their dedication to their hobby. It’s about increasing your understanding of how your equipment works, which in turn makes it that much easier to get your equipment to do what you want it to do. Plus, it opens access to the last portions of bandwidth available to amateurs in the US. An Extra ticket also lets you work as a VE testing volunteer for all levels of tests, gives you full reciprocal amateur privileges in most other countries, and opens up the most restricted batch of vanity calls. Imagine never needing to worry about band restrictions again.

As always, the book we will be using is the ARRL Extra Class License Manual https://www.arrl.org/shop/ARRL-Extra-Class-License-Manual-12th-Edition-Spiral-Bound/, available directly from the ARRL as well as other online sources.

Send an email to Keith at W6KME@cvarc.org to put your name on the list.
