President’s Message

Hello CVARC members, families, and guests!

Ed Zimmermann-N6XEW

It’s April and you know what that means, ARRL Field Day 2023 is three months away.
That means is time to start getting your gear in order, testing setups, batteries, radios, computers, and antennas.  June 24th will be here before you know it!

The CVARC General meeting is Thursday April 20th at 7:30 P.M. The topic: The Evolution of CW. Our very own Norm Campbell-AB6ET looks at how wired telegraphic electromagnetism evolved into wireless electromagnetic CW radio waves.

Saturday April 15th is not just another day, it is the CVARC Spring Fling Rover Roundup and picnic at Dos Vientos Park.  This is a 2-meter simplex event, all license classes can compete.

The rules are simple, work as many people as you can from local grid squares. All the details and rules are on the CVARC website Rover Roundup.

CVARC has a new antenna build coming up in May. The J-Pole.  It is a dual band  2-meter and 70 cm antenna. It’s perfect for portable operations and well suited for mounting at home. Best of all, it takes up very little space! An email will be coming out mid-April with more details.

CVARC’s newest net – C4FM Digital Info Net, uses a Yaesu System Fusion mode and takes place every Wednesday at 7:30 P.M. It is very exciting to have a new mode to work. If you have a C4FM capable radio, you do not want to miss this net.  Check our website for additional information.

The CVARC Newbie Net meets every Sunday night at 7:00 P.M. The Newbie Net is an opportunity for newer hams to get on the air and gain experience and confidence. More experienced hams or “Elmers” regularly check in and are available to answer questions and offer advice.  All are welcome.  We are always looking for net controllers. It is great practice and fun to be net control, so please sign up with Todd Kleopfer-KD6RCM at kd6rcm@arrl.net. #hamharder.

Hope to hear you on the air!

73,

Ed-N6XEW
