President’s Message

Happy New Year CVARC members, families, and guests!

Ed Zimmermann-N6XEW

WOW! January 2023.  Seems like only yesterday I was elected as 2022 CVARC President. It has been an amazing year. And I am looking forward to a year of new club activities. We held our first antenna build project in three years last October. Thank you, Nathan Eng-W6EN for putting that together. I think a few more builds will need to be added to the calendar for 2023.

The CVARC Holiday Party was on December 15th. A big thank you to all who attended and a special thank you to Zak Cohen-N6PK for all his hard work and planning.

The first CVARC Board Meeting of 2023 is Thursday January 12th 7 P.M. in Westlake Village. It’s going to be a fun and busy year of planning club activities. I can’t wait to get started.

The CVARC General meeting is Thursday January 19th at 7:30 P.M. Topic: James Webb Space Telescope: Most of us are enjoying the spectacular images coming from the new James Webb Space Telescope. CVARC member Gary Bostrup-KM6DMM has been involved with the landmark project, working on the sensors that are collecting those precious photons. Gary will be talking about how those amazing images are created and how radio is used to control the spacecraft and send data back to earth.

Conejo Valley Amateur Radio Club Winter Field Day, will be held once again at Dos Vientos Park, 4801 Borchard Road in Newbury Park from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

Newbie Net:  Our Newbie Net meets every Sunday night at 7:00 P.M. The Newbie Net is an opportunity for newer hams to get on the air and gain experience and confidence. More experienced hams or “Elmers” regularly check in and are available to answer questions and offer advice.  All are welcome.  We are always looking for net controllers. It is great practice and fun to be net control, so please sign up with Todd Kleopfer-KD6RCM at kd6rcm@arrl.net. #hamharder.

Hope to hear you on the air!

73,

Ed-N6XEW
