President’s Message

Hello CVARC members, families, and guests!

Ed Zimmermann-N6XEW

We had a great start to the new year! Our CVARC January General Meeting speaker was Dr. Jack Nilsson-N8NDL owner and inventor of the COMPACtenna. I have one and find it to be a surprisingly good performing antenna for the extremely compact size of 9 inches!  Several members of the club have purchased the antenna and are getting good results.

Winter Field Day was Saturday January 29th at Dos Vientos Park. The event was well attended by members and visitors, including two new club members! Thank you to Martin Hickey-AJ6CL for securing the park and seeing that everyone was fed. A well-fed HAM is a happy HAM. Our next event will be the Spring Fling in April. More details will be coming at the next club meeting.

CVARC General Meetings: We have not been given the green light to return to the East County Sheriff’s Station for in-person meetings, so we will be continuing our meetings via Zoom for the foreseeable future. Our next club meeting will be on February 17th. Check the CVARC.ORG website for meeting details. Our guest speaker will be Tim Duffy-K3LR of DX Engineering. The hot topic will be on the ever popular, ever controversial, Grounding and Bonding your shack. If you are not, you should

Newbie Net:  Our Newbie Net meets every Sunday night at 7 p.m. The Newbie Net is an opportunity for newer hams to get on the air and gain experience and confidence. More experienced hams or “Elmers” regularly check in and are available to answer questions and offer advice.  All are welcome.  We are always looking for controllers. #hamharder.  It is great practice and fun to be net control, so please sign up with Todd Kleopfer-KD6RCM at kd6rcm@arrl.net.

Hope to hear you on the air!

Ed
