President’s Message

Happy New Year CVARC members, families, and guests!

Ed Zimmermann-N6XEW

I am honored to be your new CVARC President for the coming year. A big thank you to all the 2021 Board Members who worked to keep everything moving forward during this unprecedented time.  With 2021 now in the books (and not a day too soon), the past two years have been unlike any I can remember. When our neighborhoods all but shut down, our ham community stepped up, big time! Whether checking in with members to make sure all was well; to more frequent nets, zoom classes and zoom meetings, our members made a difference.

Even though the winter COVID surge is causing some closures again, I remain optimistic. I look forward to a year with more club activities, events, projects, nets and hopefully soon, in-person monthly club meetings.

Winter Field Day is fast approaching! Saturday January 29th at Dos Vientos Park, plan on joining us for a fun afternoon. It’s a great time to check out your equipment and meet with fellow club members.

CVARC General Meetings: We have not been given the green light to return to the East County Sheriff’s Station for in-person meetings, so we will be continuing our meetings via Zoom for the foreseeable future. Our next club meeting will be on Thursday January 20th via zoom.  Check the CVARC.ORG website for meeting details. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Jack Nilsson-N8NDL inventor of the COMPACtenna. We are always looking for more members to participate. If you would like to be more involved with your club, please contact any board member or sit in on one of the board meetings.

Newbie Net:  Our Newbie Net meets every Sunday night at 7 p.m. The Newbie Net is an opportunity for newer hams to get on the air and gain experience and confidence. More experienced hams or “Elmers” regularly check in and are available to answer questions and offer advice.  All are welcome.  We are always looking for controllers. #hamharder.  It is great practice and fun to be net control, so please sign up with Todd-KD6RCM at kd6rcm@arrl.net.

Hope to hear you on the air!

73,

Ed-N6XEW
