For Sale: A Collins 51J4 General Coverage HF Receiver.
This is a classic working receiver in very good original condition. This one has not been cut up, drilled out, or hacked up. It has all three filters, hard to find cabinet, and very rare tools. You have to look hard to find a nicer one than this. It’s the one you’ve wanted, priced at $1,300.
This tube type receiver was the top of the line Collins equipment in the 1950s and 1960s for all kinds of military and commercial applications. Very stable frequency when warmed up. Still a great receiver.
Documentation, tube sets and parts are readily available at various sites on the internet.
But wait, there’s more…
Another 51J4 and an R388 are also available. Both work. Not as nice condition as the first one, but they are good Collins HF general coverage receivers for $700 each. They work but probably need work.
Don’t go away, there’s still more…
Another 51J4 as is for parts, $400. It has all three filters worth $100 each let alone the radio, original knobs, and nearly complete chassis. A few spare parts will go with it that may bring it back to life.
Other radios are available too if interested…
Collins KWM-2 transceiver with 516F2 power supply and 312B4 Station Control, all winged emblem. Very clean, worked when stored but not used for a long time. Probably needs caps and tube checking. Will not separate the set. All three units for $1100.
Also, a working WW2 aircraft receiver BC-348-R. Has been converted for home AC power, pretty clean, nice HF historical receiver for $85.
Local pick up is best due to the weight of each radio. These are solidly built. Of course pictures are available, or make a personal visit to see the radios.
